Art Beaucoup 2002 River Region Arts and Humanities Council's third annual Art Beaucoup took place on October 11 & 12 at the LaPlace Holiday Inn. There was a tea, a judged art show, and a dance featuring Harry Connick Sr. and his orchestra. This three-part gala is an annual fund-raiser for the arts council, which serves the St. John, St. James, and the St. Charles Parish area. The council is a non-profit organization, which encourages arts activities and supports active artists in the river region. It also sponsors programs and has given over 60 grants to local community based organizations. Larissa Clevenger designed the invitation and poster for this year's Oriental theme. Robert Fisher and his Destrehan art students helped create the atmosphere for a journey to the Far East. During this event Council President Sue Friloux presented the Angelus Award to Ruth Brady who was nominated by Mary Hotard Becnel. This award is given to honor a group or individual who has made an outstanding contribution to the community in the area of the arts or humanities. Local artists Audrey Giardina and Marilyn Vicknair were the art show coordinators for the "Art On A High Note" event. Artist judge Kathy Gergo who is internationally known and an instructor at the New Orleans Academy of Fine Art had her work cut out for her as she selected winners from over eighty entries. |
