2003 Angelus Award Recipient:

The St. Charles Historical Foundation

 

RRAHC Vice President Sue Friloux is holding the Angelus plaque that will be on display at the Destrehan and Luling Libraries. Board member Sandra Chaisson is presenting the 2003 Angelus Award to Marilyn Richoux President of the St. Charles Parish Historical Foundation.

Their mission is:

To preserve and promote the rich heritage of St. Charles Parish for the public by establishing a permanent museum collection and by facilitating the preservation of historic sites and relics.

What is the Angelus Award?

The Angelus Award is presented yearly by the River Region Arts and Humanities Council to honor a person or organization in the River Region that has exhibited the following traits:
  • Sustained support or influence through patronage or participation in the arts.
  • Championed preservation of local arts, humanities, or culture.
  • Contributed to increased understanding and appreciation of arts and humanities in the River Region.
  • Utilized the arts and humanities in an inspired, creative manner.

Previous Angelus Award Recipients:

2002, Ruth Brady, Her love of art and her willingness to share it made it possible for many River Parishes children to be exposed to art when it was not available in schools or by any other means.

2001, Angela Matherne, Heritage Education Coordinator at Destrehan Plantation, for promoting education in the history and culture of the River Parishes.

2000, Jack Snowdy, for outstanding contributions to the performing arts.

1999, Val Butler and students at Hahnville High School, for restoration of the Davis Nicholas House.

1998, St. James Historical Society, for support of historical memoirs by St. James Parish residents and for work on the Tourism Center.
