RIVER REGION ARTS & HUMANITIES COUNCIL Remembers

route61(LaPlace, LA) September 28, 2014 – The River Region Arts & Humanities Council, or “RRAHC”, Remembers …… Route 61. RRAHC’s annual fundraising Gala will be held on Saturday, October 11, 2014 from 7:00 p.m. till 10:00 p.m. at G. Smith Motorsports, 10567 Airline Highway, St. Rose, Louisiana. RRAHC members and the general public are invited to take a “ride” down memory lane as RRAHC features many of the important landmarks along Route 61, Airline Highway. The theme for this year’s fundraising Gala focuses on US 61 or Airline Highway as a vital roadway that connects the three River Parishes. RRAHC Gala Committee members have assembled many photos from the 1940’s to today that highlight life along “Route 61”. Many of the photos are of places that have become an important part of the history of the River Parishes.

The featured musical guest for the evening is the Reed Alleman Band. Reed is from St. Charles Parish and is a singer/songwriter whose band has entertained crowds along the Gulf Coast for over two decades. Reed is a locally inspired, well-crafted songwriting. Reed has released three CDs over the last decade. Many of his songs are written about the South Louisiana that he grew up in, tackling subjects like marsh and swampland destruction and the events surrounding hurricane Katrina. Reed also writes about characters like radio personality Don Dubuc, fisherman Deadly Dudley, and the Gumbo Krewe, using small Louisiana towns like Chipola, Sorrento and Cocodrie as backdrops.

A silent auction will feature jewelry items from Lee Michaels Fine Jewelry, and there will also be a live auction of an original painting by a local artist. G. Smith Motorsports has hosted many philanthropic events in the river parishes. Guests will enjoy the many collector vintage cars, custom motorcycles, as well as new sports cars on display in the motorsports building.

Ticket price is $50 per person and includes a complimentary cocktail upon arrival and hors d’oeuvres. A cash bar will also be available. The LSU game will be playing for those avid LSU fans. Tickets will be available for purchase the night of the event.
